REMEMBER HOW FAR YOU HAVE COME!
This morning I got dropped off at work by my husband (whom I affectionately call BIG DADDY). It was nice to have that time to talk and hold hands during the drive. It reminded me of earlier times when we had one car and had to make do. Life was simple then, but it was GOOD! I know that remembering how far your relationship has come over the years is one way to evoke feelings of gratitude.
I suggest you sit down with a pen and paper and just write down some wonderful memories that you have about the earlier years of your marriage. Remember the dates you use to go on before you had children? Remember the time you tried to wash his white clothes and turned them pink because you accidentally got a red sock in the load? Remember your first apartment you shared and the many meals you prepared (that he ate even when you knew it wasn't very good)? Remember the look on his face the very first time he held each of your children at birth? Can you remember your first big fight? Now, remember how quickly you made up? Can you remember the first time you met?
Remembering is Good for your relationship! Try to remember all the qualities that attracted you to your mate in the first place! Remember to always be a friend to your spouse and make them a priority! Remember what makes them smile, laugh, & happy! Remember to flirt with them and make them feel attractive and wanted! Remember to compliment them when they do things well so if you have to disapprove of any decision at a later date, it will be well received. Remember (ladies) to make time to be SEXY (lingerie, high heels, and make-up)! Husbands remember it's the little things that mean so much! Remember that life, love, and a happy marriage begins and ends with the two of you simply remembering.... O.K.? O.K.!
It would be difficult to let your mind travel back through time to all these events and not feel every emotion possible. Happiness, sadness, and gratitude should flood your heart at the mere thought of all you have been through together!
Anything you are facing now or may have to overcome in your future should not make you nervous or anxious because you have a rolodex of events to draw from that will remind you that as a couple you can get through anything! Remember how your husband got laid off for a whole year and you all made do with what you had? You were supportive, encouraging, and respectful. It was going through this hardship that your husband learned you were not just in the marriage for what he could buy you. Now that finances are back on track, there is nothing that he wouldn't give you!
